Quick Answer

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax a Good SUV?

Yes. The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is one of the best-value compact SUVs available — starting at $21,700 MSRP with a turbocharged engine, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Chevy Safety Assist, and up to 25.6 cubic feet of cargo space standard across all five trims. It earned an 8.6/10 from US News & World Report and was named a finalist for Best Subcompact SUV for the Money. Available at Bob Stall Chevrolet in La Mesa, CA.

Pricing & Value

What Does It Cost?

How much does the 2026 Chevrolet Trax cost?

The 2026 Trax starts at $21,700 MSRP for the LS. The 1RS and LT both start at $23,200, and the 2RS and ACTIV both come in at $25,400. Those are before destination and any packages you add. At Bob Stall, we work hard to make sure you're getting the best purchase, finance, or lease offer available. Our goal is to make sure we take care of each customer's needs on an individual basis - and we know this is a big financial decision.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax a good value?

Honestly? Yes - and the numbers back it up. US News & World Report gave it an 8.6 out of 10 and named it a finalist for their 2026 Best Subcompact SUV for the Money award. At Bob Stall, there isn't a day that goes by that we don't get an opportunity to show off the Trax, and the feedback we get from customers is almost always the same: they expected less and got more. That's a good place to be.

Does the 2026 Trax have good resale value?

The Trax was redesigned in 2024 and has shown strong demand, which typically supports resale values. Sales jumped 230% after the redesign - that kind of popularity is a good sign. Neutral colors like white, black, and gray tend to hold value best. One thing worth mentioning - if you're buying a Trax for college, or if you think you might want to sell or upgrade in a few years, let's talk about leasing. It can be a smarter financial move when you know your situation might change. We'd rather set you up with the right option from the start.

What incentives are available on the 2026 Trax?

GM and Chevrolet change their incentives monthly including cash back, special APR rates, and lease deals. The best thing to do is contact us directly. We stay on top of every current offer and make sure you're getting everything you qualify for. As a family-owned dealership since 1959, we know it's our bond with the community that helps us stand out. Call us at 619-460-1311 for current offers.

Specs & Performance

What Can It Do?

What is the MPG on a 2026 Chevy Trax?

Pretty solid for a turbocharged compact SUV - 28 city, 32 highway, 30 combined EPA-estimated. And those numbers actually hold up in the real world. Cars.com got 30.2 MPG on a real 400-mile test drive, which is about as real-world as it gets. For most San Diego commuters, you'll feel that fuel savings every week.

Does the 2026 Chevrolet Trax have AWD?

No - it's front-wheel drive only. No AWD option exists on the Trax. The good news is that in San Diego, AWD is rarely something you'll miss. If you're regularly heading up to Big Bear in January, that's a different conversation - and we'd probably steer you toward the Trailblazer. But for everyday San Diego life? FWD handles it just fine.

What engine does the 2026 Chevy Trax have?

Every 2026 Trax - all five trims - uses the ECOTEC 1.2L Turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. It makes 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. It's efficient, responsive in everyday driving, and genuinely more fun than the numbers suggest once you're behind the wheel.

Can the 2026 Trax tow a trailer?

Nope - the Trax isn't rated for towing. If hauling heavy loads is on your list of requirements, the Trax isn't your vehicle. We'd rather tell you that upfront than have you find out after you've already bought one. But with the right roof rack accessories, you can load up kayaks, paddleboards, surfboards, and cargo baskets - perfect for La Jolla Cove, Mission Bay, or Sunset Cliffs. Check out the full Bob Stall Chevrolet accessories store to see everything available for your 2026 Trax.

How much cargo space does the 2026 Trax have?

More than you'd expect from a compact SUV. 25.6 cubic feet behind the rear seat - that's more than the Honda HR-V. Fold the rear seat flat and you get 54.1 cubic feet. The cargo floor is wide and sits low, so loading is easy. We hear this a lot from customers: they thought the Trax would feel small inside and it doesn't.

What is the 2026 Trax 0 to 60 time?

Around 9 seconds. It's not fast - and we're not going to spin that into something it's not. The 1.2L turbo is tuned for efficiency. It'll merge onto the 8 without drama and handle stop-and-go on the 163 just fine. If 0-60 times matter to you, the Trax probably isn't your car. But for the vast majority of what our customers actually do with it, the engine is perfectly matched to the job.

Features & Technology

What Does It Come With?

Does the 2026 Trax have Apple CarPlay?

Yes - and it's wireless on every single trim. That includes the base LS. No cable, no adapter, no hunting for a USB port. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard across the board. Some competitors still charge extra for this or only include it on higher trims. Chevy doesn't do that here.

What safety features does the 2026 Trax have?

Chevy Safety Assist comes standard on every single trim - you don't have to pay extra for it. That means Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, IntelliBeam auto high-beams, and Following Distance Indicator on every Trax we sell. If you want to add Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Rear Park Assist, that's the Driver Confidence Package - available on all trims.

Does the 2026 Trax have OnStar?

Yes - OnStar Basics is included for 8 years on every 2026 Trax. That covers Automatic Crash Response, Remote Commands, Navigation, and Audio Streaming Apps. Worth knowing separately - Chevrolet also includes Roadside Assistance for 5 years or 60,000 miles as part of the vehicle warranty. Wi-Fi Hotspot capability is available through an upgraded OnStar plan if you want to add that.

What is the Teen Driver feature on the Trax?

Teen Driver is standard on every 2026 Trax trim - no upgrade required. It lets you set a maximum speed alert, limit the audio volume until everyone's buckled in, and pull up a report card showing how the vehicle was driven after each trip. If you're buying a Trax for a younger driver in your family, this feature alone is worth knowing about.

Does the 2026 Trax have a sunroof?

A power sunroof is available as an add-on package on the 1RS, LT, 2RS, and ACTIV. It's not available on the LS - that's the only trim that misses out. The Sunroof Package also includes wireless phone charging, which is a nice bonus. Perfect for San Diego weather - open it up on the way to the beach, close it when the marine layer rolls in.

What is the Midnight Edition on the 2026 Trax?

The Midnight Edition is available on the LT trim only (requires LT Convenience Package). What you get is a full blacked-out exterior look: High Gloss Black alloy wheels, Black bowtie center caps, Black mirror caps, Black roof rails, Black grille bar, Black bowties front and rear, Black badging, and a Black steering wheel bowtie. It turns the LT into something that will catch everyone's attention.

Trims & Colors

Which One Should I Get?

What trim levels does the 2026 Chevy Trax come in?

Five trims, each with a pretty distinct personality. Here's the quick version:

Trim Starting MSRP Best For Key Highlight
LS $21,700 Maximum value Full safety suite, wireless CarPlay
1RS $23,200 Sport look, smart price 18" black wheels, heated seats
LT $23,200 — Most Popular Best balance of features 11" screen, power seat, Midnight Edition available
2RS $25,400 Sport + fully loaded 19" black wheels, power lumbar
ACTIV $25,400 Adventure-ready Roof rails, body-color grille, Cacti Green available

Not sure which is right for you? That's what we're here for - no pressure, just a real conversation.

What is the difference between the 1RS and 2RS Trax?

More than you might think. The 1RS gives you the sport look - black bowtie, black grille, 18" black wheels, heated seats - but it's built on the LS platform with the 8" screen. The 2RS is built on the LT platform, so you get the 11" touchscreen, auto climate control, push-button start, and 8-way power seat as a starting point - then adds 19" black wheels, power lumbar, and sport interior. If you want sport styling AND the premium features, the 2RS is the one. If you want the sport look at a lower price, the 1RS does that well.

What colors does the 2026 Chevy Trax come in?

Eight exterior colors for 2026, and it's a really good lineup. Two are brand new this year. White Sands is a clean, warm white available on the 1RS, LT, 2RS, and ACTIV - and it photographs beautifully. Apex Red is a deep, bold red available on the LS, 1RS, LT, and 2RS. Both have been really popular since they launched. The returning colors are Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, Marina Blue Metallic, and Sterling Gray Metallic - all available on every trim. Then there's Cypress Gray (LS and LT only) and Cacti Green (ACTIV only, extra cost). Colors are one of those things that look completely different on a screen than they do in person - come by and see them in natural San Diego light before you decide.

Which 2026 Trax trim is the best value?

We'll give you our honest answer: the LT. At $23,200 - same starting price as the 1RS - you get the 11" touchscreen, 8-way power driver seat, automatic climate control, and push-button start. That's a meaningful step up from the LS. Most of our Trax buyers end up in the LT, and almost none of them regret it. It's also the only trim where the new Midnight Edition package is available.
