Meet Scott

Born in Italy. Raised in Point Loma.

Scott Lardner was born at the Naval Hospital in Pozzuoli, Naples, Italy. His father was a Navy Seabee. His mother spent her civil service career working with the Coronado Amphibious Base, MCRD, and finally the Navy SEALs as budget comptroller. Scott was four when the family moved to San Diego — and he's been a San Diegan ever since.

Fifty-plus years in this city. He's lived in Point Loma, Mission Valley, Rancho Bernardo, La Jolla, Carmel Valley, Downtown, and Rancho San Diego. Currently the latter for 18 years. But ask him where home is, and the answer is the same as it's been since Point Loma High School Class of 1989: Point Loma.

Scott joined Bob Stall in February 2014 — his first job in automotive, and the only dealership he's ever worked for. Before that, he spent his career in sports retail management. General Manager at Big 5 Sporting Goods, Nike, Nike HQ, and Sport Chalet. The managerial background traveled with him.

What customers know him for is the answers. The joke around the dealership is that instead of "ask Siri," it's "ask Scottie." Extensive knowledge across the Chevrolet lineup, plus enough cross-brand fluency to do honest comparative shopping with customers. He's already been through Corvette Academy once. He heads back this June for round two.

"Ask Scottie."

— The joke around the dealership (and at this point, with customers)

After 12 years on the floor and three decades of retail management before that, Scott has built the kind of reputation where people just ask. About Chevys, about comparative shopping, about what makes sense for their situation. The answer usually comes back fast and direct.

Expertise

Twelve Years on the Same Sales Floor.

Scott's career arc is unusual. Before he sold his first Chevrolet, he spent decades as a general manager in sports retail — Big 5, Nike, Sport Chalet. Then he came to Bob Stall in February 2014 and stayed. Twelve years on a single floor, no other dealerships, ever. The managerial background carries over: he runs his side of every deal like a manager who's responsible for the customer experience, not just a salesperson who's responsible for closing the sale.

Local Connection

Fifty Years. Seven Neighborhoods. One Home City.

Scott was four years old when his Navy family moved from Pozzuoli, Italy to San Diego. He's been here ever since — 50-plus years and counting. In that time, he's lived in Point Loma, Mission Valley, Rancho Bernardo, La Jolla, Carmel Valley, Downtown, and Rancho San Diego. Seven neighborhoods. He's been in the current one for 18 years.

But ask him where home is. Point Loma. Class of 89 at Point Loma High School. Class of 94 at Point Loma Nazarene University, where he's also in the Athletics Hall of Fame (class of 2013). Point Loma is the through-line of his San Diego identity.

Travel is the rest of the story. Scott has traveled extensively — with family, with sports, with work, with volunteer projects. Many countries, most of the United States. Tropical destinations are the primary choice these days. But the answer to "where do you live" has been the same for 50 years: San Diego.

When customers ask Scott for recommendations, he covers the city. Restaurants, hiking, beaches, hotels, even where to catch the best sunset. Steakhouses are a personal favorite to seek out new spots. Seven neighborhoods of lived experience adds up to a real recommendation list.

Recommendation Range

  • Steakhouses — always seeking new spots
  • Restaurants, beaches, hiking, hotels across the city
  • Sunset locations — knows where to go
  • Seven SD neighborhoods of lived experience

Where He's Based

  • Lives in Rancho San Diego (18 years)
  • Point Loma is always home
  • San Diegan since age 4 — 50+ years
  • Works in La Mesa
Outside of Work

Hall of Famer. Marathon Runner.

Scott was a three-sport college athlete with scholarships for all three. Soccer, track, cross country. Four-time conference team champion. Four-time district team champion. Six national championships across cross country and the marathon at track and field. He was inducted into the Point Loma Nazarene Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

He's still running. Marathon racing is the primary discipline these days — he's been invited to races in cities across the country. Outside of running and watching every sport that comes on TV, he travels. Tropical destinations, mostly.

Two passports help when the international travel itch hits. Italian and American — a function of where he was born and where he's lived since age four.
