Alan Dobbins — Parts Manager
Alan
Dobbins
Parts Manager
Energetic, Outgoing, and Always Has the Part.
Alan Dobbins has been running the parts counter at Bob Stall Chevrolet since March 26, 2007. That's nineteen years at the same dealership, behind the same desk.
What makes that longer than it sounds: Alan lives in Murrieta. He commutes south to La Mesa every working morning and back home every working evening. He's been making that drive for nineteen years and counting — which tells you most of what you need to know before you've even met him.
In the automotive industry overall, Alan has thirty-six years of experience — and that experience shows up in the way the parts department runs. Hazmat certified, vendor relationships built over two decades, and a personality customers and coworkers both notice. In his own words: energetic and outgoing — and known for getting the job done with that same energy.
Why has he kept the commute up all these years? It's the same answer most long-tenured Bob Stall team members give. It's the people. And the dealership genuinely cares about the work.
"Love the people, and the care of the dealership is strong."
— Alan Dobbins, Parts ManagerThat's why Alan still makes the Murrieta-to-La Mesa drive every morning after nineteen years. The parts department doesn't run itself, the people who run it have stayed long enough to know each other well, and the dealership cares about the work. After 36 years in the industry, he's tried other places. Bob Stall is the one that stuck.
Thirty-Six Years in Parts. And Counting.
Alan brings the kind of parts experience that doesn't happen in a few years. He's Hazmat certified, has spent 19 of his 36 industry years at Bob Stall, and runs a counter that DIY customers, independent mechanics, body shops, and fleet operators across San Diego County have come to know by name.

What You Get Calling the Bob Stall Parts Counter.
Alan doesn't run the parts department from a corporate office. He's been at the counter for 19 years — he knows the inventory, the vendors, and the people on both sides of the transaction. That experience shapes what customers can count on when they call or come in.
"Getting the job done — with personality."
It's how Alan describes his approach to the counter, and after 36 years in automotive and 19 of them at Bob Stall, he has the relationships and the inventory knowledge to back it up. Genuine GM parts. Hazmat-certified handling. And a counter where DIY customers, body shops, independent mechanics, and fleet operators all get the same energy — and the same straight answer about what's in stock and when it'll be ready.
Bob Stall is a family-owned dealership — one of the last independent franchises in San Diego. The parts counter operates on the same long-game principle the rest of the building does: take care of the customer this time, and they'll be back for the next one.
Southern California Forty Years In.
Alan has called Southern California home for 40 years. Today he lives in Murrieta and commutes south to La Mesa every working day — which gives him a perspective on the region most office workers don't have, and an automatic familiarity with customers reaching out from Riverside County, the Temecula valley, and points in between.
What he loves about Southern California is the geography. The weather. The beaches, the mountains, and the desert — all of them within a couple of hours of his front door. It's hard to find that anywhere else.
When customers ask for a recommendation, Alan points them to Daley Ranch — the trail system in north San Diego County that most San Diegans haven't been to but should. Great trails, the kind of spot where you actually disconnect.
Working out of La Mesa puts him central to the entire region, with parts customers reaching him from across San Diego County and beyond.
Favorite Local Spot
- Daley Ranch — north county trails
Where He's Based

Workouts, Snowboards, Tee Times.
Alan works out, snowboards, and plays golf — three hobbies that don't usually share a season. The variety keeps him moving year-round, and the snowboard explains a few of the GM vehicles in the driveway.
On weekends, the routine usually involves a barbecue. After a week running the parts counter and an hour-and-change commute home, he's not the kind of guy who turns down a slow afternoon with a grill going.
He drives the brand. Alan owns three GM vehicles personally — a 2005 Tahoe, a 2014 Silverado, and a 2023 Tahoe. Two different generations of Tahoe with a Silverado in between. That's a parts manager who's been a customer of his own department for a long time.
